Maine CDC’s published cadence is coliform, E. coli, nitrate, and nitrite every year, and arsenic (plus other metals and radon) every 3–5 years. Bacteria or nitrate still goes to the health department.

Maine CDC accredits environmental laboratories for the tests they offer. The public listings are the in-state commercial PDF (updated 5/16/2026) and the All Accredited Laboratories spreadsheet. Accreditation is by analyte. This page is a directory, not a substitute for those live files. Maine CDC tells private-well owners to test every year for coliform, E. coli, nitrate, and nitrite, and every 3–5 years for arsenic, chloride, copper, fluoride, hardness, iron, lead, magnesium, manganese, pH, radon, sodium, and uranium.
